The microsoft site encourages me to install Service Pack 1. I have the same problem, I think it is error 1324 that is related to this problem.

hi all, Recently bought a copy of Office XP for a XP Home Edition computer. The update pack downloads but while installing consistently halts at a certain point and says: Error patching update to "C\config.msi\I've been into Explorer with the View System Files checked and this folder seems to function fine when trying to write/import/export test files from it. It says something about it not being installed from the ORIGINAL hologram disk. So I am SOL, unless I get an original copy of Office XP.
